Strat HK 2009-10
Top RW Cards
July 15, 2010

Note - Cards listed here have RW as their playing position. This article
does not include players rated at LW/RW.

Alexander Semin has a "career" effort in his fifth NHL season but outside of
the shooting columns and the OFF-4 rating the card is sort of disappointing,
though not unexpected, with some of the supplemental ratings. It's a very
good card but a couple of things keep it from being a great one. Marian
Gaborik returns from the 2008-09 disappointment and posts something very
similar to his 2007-2008 card. The PIS and PRB columns are deadly with the
right unit on the ice in draft league play. Gaborik has been around
seemingly forever but he's still under 30-years of age so there should be a
few more seasons of the 35 to 40 goal range. Marian Hossa has a
goal-scoring drop in this set but in fairness he probably never bounces back
to his performances in his last few seasons with Ottawa.

Daniel Alfredsson has a very good card. Everything looks very good on the
card minus the INT-3 score. Of course, the noticeable drop in goal scoring
over the past two seasons does affect his keeper league valuation status.
The new Phil Kessel card doesn't quite have the impact of last year's effort
with the Bruins but it's probably a pretty good effort considering the Maple
Leafs last season. The EIS and PIS columns do rank nicely for the position
and that's the value along with the OFF-4 and DEF-3 ratings.

Patric Hornqvist doesn't have the greatest of touches around the net but he
comes up with a surprise 30 goals in his second NHL season. He's on the
radar as a target acquisition for some Strat coaches. Others might wonder
if he's a "one-year" wonder. He's still young and hasn't really "peaked"
yet but nothing about his career in the minors suggests a consistent scoring
threat. We will see.

Teemu Selanne doesn't slow down with age. He's basically a bag of nothing
on the defensive end but if healthy he has a scoring touch and nose for the
puck that's generally better most on the ice with him. The PIS and PRB
columns rock and it's a great card to have as long as you don't put him on
the ice when you need a better defender in his place. Loui Eriksson doesn't
repeat the 2008-09 card but the scoring chances are still very good for the
larger Strat leagues.

Finding a RW card with a DEF-3 rating is a good achievement in larger draft
leagues. Mike Knuble is not going to skyrocket in value as everyone knows
what they are getting but he's also about as consistent as they have come
over the past 7 Strat sets. Corey Perry checks in with his second
consecutive quality card but he'll need to improve his shooting percentage
in order to have better columns. A slight upturn in quality next season
could move him up the rankings a bit.
